Fall Napkin Decoupage Ideas: Creative Ways to Use Decorative Napkins
Share
One of my favorite things about napkin decoupage is seeing how many completely different projects can start with something as simple as a pretty napkin!
A wood blank might become a sign, a tag, a book, a riser or even part of a larger interchangeable display. And sometimes the napkin itself gives me the idea for what I want to make.
So, I thought I would gather some of my favorite fall napkin projects in one place. Whether you’re looking for your next DIY or just need a little inspiration to get those creative wheels turning, I hope you find an idea here that makes you want to create!
Curiosity helps you learn from your choices, instead of judging them.
Make It Reversible

Why choose just one fall design when you can have two?
For this oversized tag, I used coordinating fall napkins to create a completely different look on each side. One side features stacked pumpkins in those warm fall colors, while the other says “Happy Fall Y’all” surrounded by pumpkins and sunflowers.
Add the ribbon and embellishments, and you have one piece of decor that can simply be flipped around whenever you want a change.
This is one of my favorite ways to get even more use out of a project blank!
Use Coordinating Napkins to Create a Set

Napkin bundles make it so easy to create pieces that coordinate without everything having to match.
These two large tags use different designs, but the colors and fall leaves tie them together. Display them side by side, separate them in different areas of a room or mix them with other fall decor.
The same idea works with signs, houses, trays and just about any other blanks you have.
Think Big AND Small

I love working with different sizes of the same basic shape.
Here I used a larger cutting board and a mini cutting board to create two completely different fall designs. The larger one combines paint, a napkin and embellishments, while the mini lets that beautiful pumpkin napkin take center stage.
They look adorable together, but either one can also stand on its own.

Turn Small Tags into Seasonal Accents

Sometimes the smallest projects are the most versatile!
These little tags are simple napkin-decoupage projects, but look at how many ways you can use them. I added them to a fall wreath for one look and hung them from a small decorative ladder with a fall towel for another.
You could also tie one onto a basket, add it to a tiered tray or use it as part of a fall vignette.

Create a Coordinating Display with House Shaped Blanks

A set of simple house-shaped blanks becomes fall decor just by adding coordinating napkin designs.
I especially love projects like this because you don't have to make every piece identical. Let the napkins coordinate the colors while each blank gets its own personality.
Group them with a candle, greenery or pumpkins and you have an easy little fall vignette.
Create Decor You Can Change with the Seasons

This one might be one of my favorite ideas because the larger piece doesn't have to be a one-season project.
I created a 12x12 background and added a removable 6-inch tile in the center. The tile can be changed out, so if you do the background in a more neutral pattern, then the larger display can stay while the smaller piece changes with the season.
Sometimes Simple Is All You Need

Not every project needs lots of layers or embellishments.
A small sign propped on an easel can add just the right touch of fall to a shelf, kitchen counter, tiered tray or vignette. This is also a great project when you want something quick and easy.
Turn A Round Blank Into a Statement Piece

A 12-inch round gives you plenty of room to play!
For this one, I combined more than one napkin pattern with paint, ribbon and the large “thankful” word to create a piece that feels much more substantial than the blank we started with.

Don't Overlook Dimensional Pieces

Napkin decoupage definitely doesn't have to stay on flat signs.
This little Dollar Tree crate got a complete fall makeover with pumpkins on the front, a coordinating pattern on the sides, decorative hardware and feet.
Fill it with greenery, florals or other seasonal goodies and suddenly that inexpensive little crate looks completely different!

Yes, You Can Even Make a "Book"

This is exactly what I mean when I say to look at a blank and think beyond what it was originally intended to be.
Napkins, burlap, ribbon and a few details transformed this wood piece into a decorative fall book. I love the side view because you can really see how all of those textures work together.
Projects like this are also great for stacking and layering into your fall displays.

Make Something You Can Actually Use

And then there's the riser!
For this project, the fall napkin became part of something that isn't just pretty. Once the project was finished, I could actually use it to add height and interest to my decorating.
Here I used it with a lamp and greenery, but there are SO many ways to style a decorative riser throughout your home.
I actually shared an entire post with ideas for doing exactly that, so rather than repeat them here, head over to How to Style a Decorative Riser for lots more inspiration.
Mix, Match & Make It Yours
If there is one thing I hope you take away from all of these projects, it's that the napkin is just the beginning.
Use one design or several. Pull out only part of a napkin. Mix patterns. Add paint. Layer your blanks. Add ribbon, stencils, hardware or embellishments. Make something reversible. Turn a blank sideways. Use it for something completely different than you originally planned.
And don't feel like your finished project has to look exactly like mine!
Take the idea, choose the colors and napkins YOU love and make it yours.
