DIY Fall Napkin Rings Using Raffia & Wreath Sprigs

DIY Fall Napkin Rings Using Raffia & Wreath Sprigs

One of my favorite things about seasonal decorating is finding ways to use what I already have and turn it into something new and beautiful. That's actually how I got started with my business back in 2014! These DIY Fall Napkin Rings are exactly that! I made them using pieces from a wreath we once carried in the shop... it had the most gorgeous fall tones of orange, yellow, brown, and red. I repurposed a few sprigs and created something completely unique to dress up my table for fall or Thanksgiving.

These napkin rings are simple, textural, warm, and cozy... everything I love in a fall or Thanksgiving tablescape. And the best part? You can substitute whatever greenery, florals, or ribbon you have on hand. Want to watch the REEL of me making these? Just click HERE.

Supplies You’ll Need:

  • 3 small sprigs of fall greenery or floral picks (cut from a wreath or floral bush works great!)
  • Raffia (around 9 strands total about 18" long so you have enough to overlap and trim)
  • Twine
  • Ribbon of your choice (I used a warm fall-toned ribbon)
  • Hot glue gun & glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • A piece of a toilet paper roll (optional, just for sizing)

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Create Your Leafy Topper

Start by taking three small sprigs of your fall wreath or floral stem and pinch them together at the top.
Secure them by wrapping twine around the stems several times until they feel tight and sturdy. Tie a knot and trim any excess twine.

This will become the portion that sits on top of the napking ring.

2. Make the Raffia Ring

Next, take 9 strands of raffia and divide them into 3 groups of 3 strands.
Tape the top to your table (this helps it stay together!) and braid the raffia all the way down.

You want your braid to be long enough to form a circle about the size of a standard napkin ring. A cut section of toilet paper roll works perfectly as a guide!

When your braid is long enough, bring the ends together to form a circle.
Use a small piece of raffia to tie the ends together, knot it tightly, and trim the excess, but leave enough of the tails to help blend into the leaves later.

3. Add the Leafy Topper

Using hot glue, attach your leafy bundle right on top of where the raffia ends meet. This not only decorates the seam, but hides it beautifully.

Hold the sprigs in place for a few seconds while the glue sets.

4. Finishing Touch: Add a Bow

Tie a little shoestring bow with your ribbon and use a dab of hot glue to secure it to the front of your leafy sprig bundle.
This adds a sweet little finished detail that makes your napkin rings feel polished, thoughtful, and festive.

Style Them on Your Table

Slide your napkin inside, fluff the leaves a bit, and place one at each spot setting.
They add texture, warmth, color and personality!

They’re the perfect finishing touch to a fall tablescape... especially one layered with natural textures, cozy fabrics, pumpkins, candles, and soft autumn tones. You can click HERE to see more photos of this table on my Facebook page.

Final Thoughts

Crafting doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. Sometimes it’s simply about looking at what you already have and imagining it in a new way. These napkin rings are a small detail that make your fall table feel extra thoughtful and special — and truly one-of-a-kind.
