6 Small DIY Projects You Can Make with Decoupage Napkin Scraps

If you love decoupage projects as much as I do, you know this truth all too well:
you always end up with napkin scraps.

Too small to use on a big project… but way too pretty to throw away.

This week on the My Home Matters Facebook page, I made set of stacking presents on a small background I got from Dollar Tree and used wooden tiles and napkin pieces leftover from prior projects. It got me thinking about all the other little projects you can create using those leftover scraps. Today I’m sharing six small DIY projects that are perfect for using up decoupage napkin remnants and turning them into something beautiful.

All of the projects shown in this blog post incorporate napkins from our online shop. Follow along on the MHM Facebook page as I have completed many projects using the same technique for napkin decoupage. The first example below has a link to the recent video if you are unfamiliar with the process of using the iron on technique for napkin decoupage.

1. Stacked Present Sign

This is the project that inspired the post. Using a Dollar Tree wood blank and square wood tiles, you can create adorable stacked presents by applying different napkin scraps to each “gift.”

Why it works:

  • Napkin scraps don’t have to match perfectly
  • Small images still make a big impact
  • Easy to customize colors and themes
  • Perfect for shelves, mantels, or tiered trays.

Watch the video tutorial HERE.

2. Mini Faux Books

Mini faux books are one of my favorite scrap-friendly projects. Small rectangular napkin pieces work beautifully on the “spines,” and imperfections actually add charm. Or you can wrap the pattern around on the large flat surfaces, if you want to see that portion of the "book" and have enough napkin left.

How to use them:

  • Stack 2–3 together
  • Tie with twine or ribbon
  • Add to a shelf, tray, or riser
  • They’re quick, cozy, and great for seasonal décor.

3. Small Shelf Sitter

A small wood block makes the perfect base for napkin scraps. You only need a single image or pattern piece to create a finished look.

Why it’s a win:

  • Takes minutes to make
  • Great for leftover borders or partial designs
  • Easy to embellish with bows, mini ornaments, or tags

4. Mini Cutting Board Accent

Mini decorative cutting boards are ideal for showcasing napkin scraps. The handle adds interest, and the surface doesn’t require a full napkin design to look complete.

Style tip:
Use a two-toned look by painting or staining the top third and use your favorite part of the napkin on the lower two-thirds. Add some twine or ribbon to hide any imperfections between the two sections.

Perfect for kitchen tiered trays, coffee bars, or leaning on a shelf or against a flower pot or vase.

5. Coasters

Napkin scraps are perfect for coasters because you only need a small section to make them feel intentional.

Great options:

Seal them well, and they become both decorative and functional.

6. Small Sign

A simple small sign is one of the easiest ways to use napkin leftovers. Whether it’s a word, phrase, or image, scraps work beautifully when paired with paint or light distressing, or some gold rub and buff (as shown on this little round I found at Walmart).

Why I love this project:

  • Totally customizable
  • Great gift idea
  • Easy to batch-make

Final Thoughts

Decoupage napkin scraps don’t need to live in a drawer “just in case.” With a little creativity, they can become finished pieces you’re proud to display (or gift).

These small projects are budget-friendly, beginner-friendly, and a great way to stretch your supplies while still creating something special.

If you try any of these ideas, I’d love to see what you make! Share it on a Maker’s Monday post or tag me so I can cheer you on.
